Academics

My name is Brianna Patnaude, and I am currently a freshman at Rutgers University-New Brunswick intending to major in Biomedical Engineering. Previously, I studied at the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science, more commonly known as MATES, located in Manahawkin, New Jersey. All courses at MATES were taken at either the honors level or dual-enrollment through Ocean County College or Stockton University, In addition to the course load, I gained valuable laboratory and field experience by working on independent and collaborative research projects, many of which can be seen under the “Research” tab. Additionally, I participated in many extracurricular actives, such as the MATES chapter of the National Honors Society, FirstTech Robotics Club, and Birding Club. Outside of MATES, I pursued my Emergency Medical Technician certification by enrolling in a 250-hour course through my first aid squad and passing the state exam. All of these experiences have taught me invaluable research, leadership, technical writing, and public speaking skills, in addition to never taking an opportunity to learn for granted.

Extracurricular Activities
Emergency Medical Technician
I began volunteering at South Toms River First Aid during my freshman year of high school as a cadet. As my background in emergency medicine grew, I knew that I wanted to do more to help my community and learn more. I completed a 250-hour basic life support course(BLS) course and passed the test to become a certified emergency medical technician in August 2018. Today, I am an active emergency medical technician at my first aid squad. As our squad's cadet advisor, I train incoming members to strengthen their BLS skills and share my passion for medicine.

WRSU Radio Station

I developed a deep appreciation for music at a young age through dance; an appreciation that I still hold close today. This urged me to join Rutgers University's WRSU Radio Station, to connect with others who also have a deep appreciation for music. As an active member, I attend and review concerts for the station. WRSU has helped developed my creative writing skills by working on live concert reports and song reviews.

MATES Robotics Club

I was the Head of Engineering for MATES FirstTech Robotics Team for most of my high school career at MATES. I entered the club as a sophomore with minimal background in computer science and a strong ambition to learn more. Over the years, I steadily began to learn more about programming and engineering, eventually working up to becoming the Head of Engineering as a junior. I led our engineering initiatives and taught incoming members about our equipment. In addition to the MATES Robotics, I used my acquired background in computer programming to volunteered as a Java programming instructor to middle and high school students across Toms River, NJ through the TR: TechReady Coding Camp funded by the Office of Naval Research.
